Woven Fabric Lamination Rolls: Identify the Faces and Unwind Reference

A laminated woven fabric roll has more than one useful reference. There is the physical face being observed, the intended layer arrangement and the way the web leaves the roll for its next operation. A label such as coated side up may describe only one photograph. It becomes ambiguous when the roll is turned, the sample is flipped or another person views the material from the opposite side.

Zhejiang Kangjia Machinery Co., Ltd. publishes a lamination equipment product page for project discussions based on fabric, coating material and the desired structure. A layer drawing, physical sample and downstream process description help define that discussion. The orientation record below is general purchasing guidance, rather than a statement about a particular machine configuration.

Create a face legend before using directional language

Assign neutral identifiers such as Face A and Face B to the two surfaces of the sample. Describe what each identifier means using the agreed structure drawing. Do not use left, right, top or bottom as the only identification, because those terms change when the observer moves or turns the material over.

The legend should state the intended condition of each surface without making assumptions from colour or gloss alone. If a layer cannot be identified reliably by appearance, refer to the approved material specification or request clarification. A photograph supports orientation but cannot establish the composition of an unseen or visually similar layer.

Use the same face names in the quotation request, trial sample record and downstream handover. When a supplier uses a different naming system, include an explicit mapping between the two. This prevents an apparently agreed instruction from carrying opposite meanings in separate documents.

Show the intended layer sequence independently

Prepare a simple cross-section sketch that lists the intended layers in order. Connect Face A and Face B to that sketch. Keep material identification and layer sequence separate from the direction in which the web travels. A correct sequence does not by itself explain how the roll should be positioned for the next process.

Identify the drawing revision and the product variant. If two bag structures use similar-looking fabric, give each its own reference rather than relying on a shared photograph. State any unresolved layer information as an open technical question in the inquiry; do not fill the gap with an assumed composition.

Review the proposed structure with the supplier before treating it as accepted. A product name does not establish which layers, additional functions or treatment steps are included in a quotation. Ask for the agreed scope and document any difference between the requested structure and the supplier's proposal.

Describe unwinding from a fixed viewing position

Draw the roll, the viewing position and the path by which material is intended to leave it. Mark which face is visible at the relevant downstream reference point. This is more precise than using an unwinding arrow alone, because the same arrow can be interpreted differently when the drawing is viewed from the other end.

Relate the sketch to the actual receiving process. The required presentation may depend on the operation that follows, and a roll arrangement accepted for one route should not automatically be assumed suitable for another. Confirm the intended path with the responsible equipment supplier or authorized process personnel.

Avoid turning the orientation note into an operating instruction. The document should specify the required material presentation and the agreed references. Threading, lifting and machine adjustments must follow the applicable equipment instructions and authorized procedures, which are outside the scope of this purchasing guide.

  1. Identify the viewing end on the drawing so the roll orientation has a fixed reference.

  2. Label the material path and the face that reaches the agreed downstream reference point.

  3. Link that sketch to the roll identifier and approved layer drawing before sharing it.

Keep the physical sample tied to the roll record

General sample-identification practice: retain an identified sample in a labelled sleeve with a face legend and a small orientation drawing. Put the sample code in photographs of both sides. Use a marking method agreed for the material so identification does not contaminate or damage the surface being evaluated.

Record which trial roll and product revision the sample represents. A loose piece with no connection to the trial record may demonstrate a layer arrangement, but it cannot establish which produced roll used that arrangement. Keep that evidence limitation visible when samples are shared among purchasing, technical and downstream teams.

If a sample has been cut or folded for transport, include a note explaining how its current presentation relates to the original reference. Do not expect the next reviewer to reconstruct orientation from a crease or a handwritten arrow whose viewing direction was never defined.

Use a handover check before downstream approval

Ask the receiving team to confirm the face legend, layer drawing revision and unwinding reference before the trial material is used. Record any disagreement while the evidence is still available. It is easier to resolve a document interpretation than to explain a downstream observation after sample labels have been separated from the material.

General handover practice: have the sender and receiver refer to the same annotated overview and confirm which face will reach the stated process reference. Save that agreement with the roll identifier. This is a communication check, not a substitute for the receiving process's own suitability assessment.

Conclude the review by stating exactly what has been accepted: the documented layer arrangement and the intended presentation for the named route. Appearance, bonding and other product requirements still need separate evidence. The company introduction provides the broader equipment range; confirm project-specific details directly when requesting a proposal.

Frequently asked questions

Q1: Is coated side up a sufficient roll instruction?

A: Usually it needs more context. Identify the face and define the viewing position or downstream reference where up applies. A face legend and orientation sketch make the instruction less dependent on how a particular photograph was taken.

Q2: Can colour identify the coating layer?

A: Do not rely on colour alone to establish material identity or layer sequence. Use the agreed specification and identified sample. Record uncertainty when visually similar surfaces cannot be distinguished reliably.

Q3: Does an approved roll orientation prove bonding quality?

A: No. Orientation approval describes which surface and material path were agreed. Bonding, appearance and other finished-structure criteria require their own evaluation methods, evidence and acceptance decisions.
